Hello everyone. Thought I'd come share some nice spots to fish cat's on akhtuba right now, and a bit of a interesting story to go along with it :)

So i decided to fish target some cat fish last night with my rocket jet and 142kg segun rod. I had traveled to every hole on akhtuba, to see which one gave the best results. I had located some very nice cat fishing in the B3 hole and the i9 hole. Both places were working pretty well, however B3 seemed to be spawning larger cats than i9. I caught many 20-40kg cats in both holes, but ended up getting my biggest ones in B3 which was a 58kg on the setup in the screenshot below.

After leaving the hole in B3, I decided to take a break from cat fishing and try and target some zander, because they seemed to be biting at the 6m drop off in H5. Earlier in the day i had caught quite a few there with a 5.5m wobbler while trolling. I decided to troll through H5 a couple times to make sure the zander were in fact still there, and they were. Caught a few 4-5kg ones as i trolled through a couple times. It was approaching evening/night, so I then decided to stop the boat and use my medium setup and jig for them, hoping to finally get that trophy Zander that has eluded me for so long. Medium setup for zander in the screenshot below.

After about 10-15 casts and only getting small 1-2kg zander, I decided to head back to B3 for the night and fish cats with my heavy setup, but thought to myself one more cast isn't gonna hurt. This time around i hand landed the perfect cast right along the wall of the 6m drop off and was able to get touching bottom for every rotation of my reel. That's when it happen. My lure got smoked, at first i thought man i finally got him. Then after about 10 seconds my line started to peel like crazy, as my reel began to scream. At this moment I thought to myself, damn i wish i would have kept using my heavy setup. After a 2.5 hr battle and it taking me for a tour around akhtuba. i finally got the beast in, and what a fight it was. I had hooked a 90kg cat (10kg short of a trophy) on a 19.1kg leader, and never imagined a catfish could be so fast in the water.

I hope you guys found my story amusing, and my info helpful. Just remember if you are after Zander, you might want to think twice about using a medium setup. 😄

Have been daily at 101:57 for the last few days and it is still working good.

Over the days I changed Bait, GB, PVA and Hooks to optimize the setup and fishing.

Changed from Bloody hooks to deadly loops because I had to many random fish lost with bloodies, since deadlies 0 lost fishes.

Changed from Rhino, Mole Cricket, Cockchafer to 3x Mole Cricket (Rhino and Cock having to many sidecatches, like Wildcarp and Breams. Mole has only every now and then a Cat, another Sturgeon or Sterlet.)

Changed PVA by removing chopped worms and adding Nut Mixture + using only 3x Crayfish as attractant instead of Cray + Caviar + Crab and Mussels with the result of a way better bite rate. Side effect is currently less cats <- can be a fluke, needs more Time to be sure.

I am averraging now 500-700+ Silver an hour without trophies during all weather conditions.

Start for today:

Nice cat man!

Have you paid attention to the wear added to the reel? How much was that? :D

Lol wow. Don’t worry once you got a ti + venga and 60kg line those cats are much easier.

B8 44:55 clip 42 has sturgeons at the moment.

also if you want big ones, the prime time is morning and temps between 18-22oC. After this they become small.

over night Jig B8 with the huge minnow brown one. Lots of cats! Go for that trophy :)

Hi there !

Every one talks about 84.108 for sturgeons and sterlets, but it's also a nice spot for common bream at night.

Spot: 84.108

Clip: 23m

Casting direction: east

Rig: bottom in-line/loop (trophy caught on inline rig)

Bait: garlic dough (trophy on it) and nightcrawler

Groundbait: see screenshot

Fishing period: night (during the day, you'll get mostly undersized annoying little breams).

I noticed too some white-eye breams biting on nightcrawlers, so if you're interested, there's maybe something to try for them here.
