LadyofGames
Ide The Ide is a member of the Cyprinidae family. It is common in Europe and Siberia up to the Kolyma. It prefers deep rivers with moderate currents, lakes with flowing water and water bodies on floodplains. Ide enjoy shoaling in deep silted holes, under piers and berms. It is a freshwater fish, but it can survive in brackish water of sea bays as well. The ide is highly sensitive to the level of water oxygenation, therefore it doesn’t occur in shallow lakes and in closed ponds. It is practically omnivorous. Its diet includes plants, insects, crustaceans and small fish. Adult ide’s length ranges from 30 to 50 cm, its weight is about 3 kg. Large specimens reach a weight of about 7 to 8 kg. Visually ide is similar to chub or roach. It differs from roach with its smaller scales and greenish yellow iris. It is distinguished from chub by its higher body, lighter back and small scales. In spring ide’s body obtains metallic luster. Its dorsal and caudal fins are black, the rest are red. Adult ide’s scaling has a gold shimmer. oOBrieOo
any recommendations for catching large ide? bait/hook size? Ive only been able to land up to around 2kg with maggot and 6-8 hook.
krokenosterfant2
I have been having success on volkhov for ides with wheat seed, biggest so far is 2.5kg. They say grass hopper work for trophies but I haven't had any luck with them. I mainly go for them when after bream so my hooks are size 10 to size 6 Edited March 19, 2018 by krokenosterfant2
JunkyJuke
Pea poridge, garlic dough, red worm, red worm boilies, maggots, cottage cheese, pearl barley, wheat seed. There are many baits working with Ide. To increase chance to get some bigger ones stick with #6 hooks. All the above mentioned baits work great for bream too. The most important thing now is line size. They are very suspicious, expecially the trophies. I cought a couple of nice trophyes yesterday both on 0.18 braid and nylon lines. The spot was the Pier in Volkhov. Get ready for a nice fight on light equipment.
oOBrieOo
Thanks guys.. Ive upgraded to flouro line, but its definitely bigger diameter than that.. maybe thats the problem.. I watch people all around me in the same area pulling in 2-3kg ide but im just sittin there getting 500 grammers. lol So frustrating. I fish mostly in Old Burge atm, so am worried about the big carp breaking my line if I try fishing with lighter gear...

Fluro line is invisible, so diameter doesn’t really matter on those or atleast it shouldn’t. Mono it would. I’m using 17.5kg fluro and doing just as good as any of the other fluro leaders
Strings
So i found a really nice ide spot in mosquito lake. If you follow the trail past the fish mongerer you will pass "perch hill" or something like that, after that there are some tree stumps sticking out of the water. That's the spot. At night i throw in my trusty telestick with wheat on a 6 hook between 40 and 50 cm deep. I get 2 or 3 big ide per night at the moment. Biggest so far is 2,4kg at daytime i get some 500-800gr ide but i like to go for tench in the morning and carp/roach midday

It is still working, and I do suggest a fluro line or at least a leader. 6kg one seems to work well for me. Try different bait if maggots are not working. Pea porridge, redworm, cottage cheese dough. they will even take some pearl barley and wheat seeds. Groundbait also helps. If your level is too low try making some with rivulet feed and maggots and sunflower oil. I had some luck in the past.

Crucian
Finding fish is really a process of trial and error. Remember that water bodies are a living entity and change as time goes on based on factors that effect the environment.
